Healthier alternatives? I'm neither black nor female and have no idea.

I think there is an assumption that products sold in retail outlets are safe and have been tested. Heck, we are just defining food labels in such a way that as consumers, we know what's in our food. After reading the article, I'm not surprised to find out that these harmful chemicals are in the products, and they may be the root cause for some terrible diseases. Don't want to see this as a color/racial issues, but a product issue that needs a recall. Hopefully, the government will react swiftly and mandate change.

It would be great if women did not have to use these products & we could all accept how their hair is, naturally.

It's been known for years that relaxers and uterine fibroids seem to be related. This is one of the reasons many decided to forgo those types of products and work with our hair in its natural state. It looks like the products they tested are those still used for straight hair. Many of the true natural hair products at least don't contain parabens, at least.
