There are a lot of ways to care for your hair. The hair-product and hair-salon industries are unlikely to tell you that. Unfortunately, it can take a lot of experimentation to figure out what works for you and what doesn't-- what works for one person won't work for another, and vice versa. Some love water-only, some can't manage it. Some can't use sulfate shampoos, others have to. Some love vinegar, some hate it (and some sub citric acid). Some can leave long hair down, some can't. Some can wash frequently and some can't; or some can go without washing for a long time and others can't. Which is why I laugh when I see people saying "you should always do this to your hair" or "you should never use that on your hair." It can be individual for everyone.
Once you find what works... fabulous. Just don't think that because it works for you (or doesn't work for you), that it's what everyone else should (or shouldn't) do. Likewise, if someone tells you you should (or shouldn't) do something, but doing it doesn't work for your hair (or does)... do what works for you, not what doesn't work for you just because it's what someone else said. (Yes, I've seen a lot of people saying "I read/heard that I should{n't} and so...I" ... "...stopped washing as often and I hate my hair" or "...gave up silicones and now my hair is unmanageable" or "...started using coconut oil and my hair is in awful shape." But they insist on continuing whatever it is they were told to do even though they're miserable and liked their hair better before. Don't! Your hair is your hair, not anyone else's.)
