Hi Greenchili, thanks for the suggestions. Which V05 conditioner do you like? I was thinking that the strawberry one was one that I had tried when I was so dry, but I am not sure. Which Nature's Gate formula? I had never heard of them before but when I look it up there are a gazillion products. Where do you get them? You say it's better, in what way? I'm honestly having a hard time imagining my hair any better. Do you have the same hair type as me (fine, straight) and is your hair color treated? Does the color last as long as with Hair One? Can you use the conditioner indefinitely without needing to shampoo it at least occassionally? Any further input would be appreciated.

Hi Tilli,
I use the strawberry along with Blackberry sage. I use Natures Gate
Organics,Its the Asian pear/Red tea one I believe. I do shampoo also.
Just when I feel I need to,ie build up,or after a heavy deep treatment.
I dont color and have coarse wavy hair,so we dont have the same hair
types! I think shampoo is the worse culprit for colored hair. But dont quote me, since I dont color, There are other cheap conditioners to try also,
like Suave naturals, and White Rain. But Ive found I like V05 best, then
maybe Suave.
Good luck
Greenchili

In the interests of science....

I have "washed" my hair with just conditioner (Trader Joe's Nourish at $2.99 a bottle) for over a year now, but was walking past Sally's yesterday and thought - let's give this Hair One a try. I got the tea tree oil one. Now I've only washed it once but I think it may be marginally better than the conditioner. It's difficult to tell, because it's raining here today, and that's never good for my wavy hair, but it doesn't seem as frizzy as I would expect to see it with these weather conditions. It's no softer, but the Nourish makes it very soft anyway and it's no shinier. So really, it's going to come down to two things - how long this bottle lasts (the nourish lasts months) and if it's noticeably better when the weather is dry. My hair is extremely porous (why I don't know - I don't use heat or color on it and am now beginning to suspect my anti-depressants may be the culprit) so it might well be better when it's dry.

I think Hair ONe has some silicone in it if Im not mistaken. It might
build up a bit more than say a cheap silicone free conditioner would.

My bottle (jojoba Hair One) doesn't list silicone on the label, is it known by a different name in the hair care biz?

Edit: nope, you are right, "amodimethicone" is silicone.

Interesting, I have experienced absolutely zero build-up even when I use a little as a leave-in/styler and have not needed to use shampoo at all.

Amodimethicone is one of those 'cones that may or may not be water soluble (depending on what you read). There seems to a be a feeling that while it may be soluble in water in the bottle (or perhaps only when it's mixed with another ingredient), as soon as that water evaporate (i.e. when it's on your hair) then it's no longer soluble, but that it is such a thin layer that it will not build up. Who knows. Time will tell .

Well I had Aussie's "Moist" conditioner here. Used it on unwashed hair that was very dirty. I skipped a couple days because I was not doing anything but staying home and skipping really is good for my dry hair. I could feel it cut through the dirty hair feeling. I used two handfuls for shortish hair. Its clean but I don't know if it will build up. It actually has more body as it seems the scalp is more moist and not itchy here and there. (no druff just tight/itchy)

I was smell checked by the boyfriend and there is no dirty hair stank. And yes, he would tell me. Its one of his most hated stanks. LOL

I love it too! Ok well the Aussie Moist seemed to leave a build up or did not deeply condition enough. My hair still kinda felt stiff like hair that has been relaxed a bit too much. I went looking for that nexxus repair stuff and they did not have it at the store closest to me. I ended up picking up Suave's version of nexxus humectrant (sp?) to try. I did use the aussie moist shampoo with it and it was softer in that combo than the Aussie/Aussie combo. The Suave also seems to work better as a leave in/style juice. I have been leaving it on my hands instead of washing it off and it also is keeping away how my palms get dry around this time of year. I have not really used lotion daily. My hair is flexi and does not feel crispy today. Hopefully it will not build up like the Aussie moist felt like it did. If so..I will let ya know!
