I am surrendering to the natural curl and going product free other than shampoo/conditioner.

Lately I have just been pulling it back like:

(But with the curls free to air dry)

The bangs and front stay smooth but the rest is HUGE like:

Right now I just use a nylon loop or scrunchie band like the first picture. My hair sometimes slips out of the nylon loop because its silky and not coarse. Kinda worried the scrunchie brand thin band will start breaking my hair so I am looking for alternatives.(its tight and has a line of rubber backing)

I don't like loud/big hair accessories and want to keep it conservative.

On youtube there are some videos but I thought it would be easier to ask on here on how to avoid breakage with certain headbands or things others have found to be damage free.

Have you tried the Goody ouchless stretch bands? They look like the ponytail holders but of course are much bigger and flatter. I stretch mine on a wide open drawer for several days, enough so that I can double the band when putting it on. I do this because tight bands give me headaches.

There's also the old school zig-zag plastic band, which connects with a prong and hole. Once you lay it on and push into place, it should stay on.

Then there's the satin ties. If you double them before tying, they may stay secure.

Finally, there's these tube bands. They are long, but they can be scrunched, worn different ways and they hold up well. Great customer service:
