Whatever hair color brands I buy, they all seem to stain. I don't fling my hair around, I'm very careful, yet I get spots on the wall. My friend just used Natural Match and it didn't stain her skin the way mine always do. Is this a color issue or a brand issue? I choose shades of brown or reddish-brown. (I'm not interested in the 10-minute kind, those are very bad for your hair.) Thanks!

I have never found a hair coloring that did not stain, that includes Natural Match (I tried several medium/light brown shades). You can easily remove it from the skin with an alcohol based toner ala Sea Breeze or whatever you have around. Use it as soon as possible to minimize development time, don't forget the top and backs of your ears and of course the hairline. Or you can use Vaseline in the areas that tend to stain so the dye does not come in contact with the skin. For the wall I have never found anything that will prevent staining other than wiping any spots off as quickly as possible. After it is dry a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser can sometimes remove the stain on painted walls, depends on the paint and how much the dye soaked in.

Rub some vasoline around your hair line before you color.

OK, I don't know why it seemed like my friend's brown wasn't staining. The wall it got on is a kind of paneling, unpainted, nothing gets it off.

A permanent color not staining? That's like wanting to find a permanent glue that doesn't stick.

Just select 2 old/ragedy towels and a set of old bed sheets to use as a 'hair coloring kit'.

The towels are for you but drape one sheet on the floor, put chair in the middle and drape other sheet on the chair.

Oh, have a set of clothes for this, too.

I'm using Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Color. Though it was a auburn color (not what your shade your talking about) what I used was a permanent color and somewhat stained the walls *i was able to wash it off by using the scrubbing thing I have* but it somewhat stained my skin (but most that was on my hair when my friend dyed it got off) and my tub wasn't stained

Yup. Not really much else you can do. Hair color is meant to stain. Of course you only want it to stain your hair, but we don't always get what we want! You could also make sure to use a makeup remover towel or pad immediately after application of the color on the stain marks, before it has a chance to set into the skin.
