Why does my hair turn red with salon coloring? (lighten, color, blonde)

I have light golden brown hair with 10% grey. At a Regis Salon I asked the colorist for dark golden blond highlights/all over color and it came out as strawberry blond--nice color but not what I wanted. What should she have done differently?
Sounds like your underlying red-orange pigment was revealed by the lift of the all-over color, which didn't have enough pigment to tone it. That is a common problem in that shade range.
You could put a semi on top to reduce the red, like Clairol Radiance. Since you have some grey you probably want to mix 2 shades, like 75% 6A and 25% 6GB.
get lighter high lights. There is a very small difference between light golden brown and dark golden blonde. You probably ended up with alot of golden color... which can pull red. Go lighter with the high lights...
There is a problem...semi perm color and grey hairs are not a good combo... Those grey hairs will pull gold or red. She should have used a perm color, highlighted with bleach and then toned the highlights with a darker color...

Well, since it's lightened just go to another salon and ask for some highlights. Or just wait another month and get it done again. This time it should get the red out and be a pretty blonde (or golden color).
I had the same problem. The hairstylist tried twice to 'get the red out'. I finally let it grow out and then ended up hi-lighting it myself and it turned out exactly the way I wanted it in the first place. Stylist told me the majority of colors have a lot of red hues because it is the "fad" now.
I couldn't stand any red tones; besides not going well with my complexion, neither did it go well with any of the colors I normally wear.
While it was growing out, I used darker rinses to help tone it down.
Try washing with a purple toned shampoo. It can soften it a bit so its not so harsh. I like Jhirmack. John Fredia makes a brown glaze that also tones down the harshness but also can darken. Both of those things wash out so there is little commitment.
I suggest the shampoo/condition for a first try just because its easy to keep up, and its a nice shampoo.
You have to do upkeep on the glaze and it can be messy.
i just recently colored a friends hair 4g, but it keeps pulling red, what can i do?
