I've heard that taking it will make my hair and nails grow faster and thicker, any truth to this? I've been taking it for about a week now. I want to have nice hair again.

In most cases it will make your hair grow a little faster after time. You will not see any real result right away, it takes a month or more. I have been taking it for a year.

Works well for me too! Take a multi vitamin with it if you don't already.

Is that included in a vitamin B complex, or is it the same thing?

I just found this article which I haven't read fully on the physiology of those who are prone to a deficiency of biotin...such as those people who take anti-biotics or anti-convulsants. Interesting that the first indicator of it is with one's hair and skin.

Should anyone care to read the article (the scientific stuff is over my head): Biotin Deficiency: eMedicine Pediatrics: General Medicine

My doc suggested multi-vitamin, B-complex and Vit C, and an emulsified Vit D. That's about it. I know that when I faithfully follow that my nails grow faster.

Yeah, it will; but don't take it alone. Try to find a good multi-vit that has biotin in it, and take that.

Honestly, I prefer to take prenatal vits, they work wonders!

Vit D + calcium was a capper in my diet that was a BOOM in hair and nail growth. I avoid the sun and don't eat much if any dairy these days. It super powers the biotin. I have taken it alone too and it still works. But not like it does when I am taking viactiv too.

You B complex may or may not have Biotin:
B vitamins - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Vitamin B1 (thiamine)
Vitamin B2 (riboflavin)
Vitamin B3 (niacin or niacinamide)
Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid)
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, or pyridoxamine, or pyridoxine hydrochloride)
Vitamin B7 (biotin)
Vitamin B9 (folic acid)
Vitamin B12 (various cobalamins; commonly cyanobalamin in vitamin supplements)"

^^^the two ways of saying a b vitamin

hmmm... prenatal vitamins. I forgot about those. I have this bottle of biotin that I may as well use up, but I'll switch to prenatals once I'm done with those. Thanks.

You really should not take those for that. They can be too much:

What Are the Dangers of Prenatal Vitamins? | eHow.com

I would talk to your doctor about it. I know a ton of people take em and don't drop dead but eh..better safe than dead when you finally get those tresses in!

Digestible silica will also increase hair shaft folicle thickness. Include in diet with the biotin. www.orgonosilica.com makes some. I drink it and my barber notices. I have used the same barber for about ten years..
