Turning RIGHT on RED? (Hampton: oceanfront, law, legal)

So, can you turn right on red unless otherwise posted? I haven't seen anyone doing this and when I do so I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

You can just make sure you come to a complete stop. I know several people who have gotten tickets, from red light cameras, for not completely stopping.

If it's illegal to do so, you'll definitely see a sign. Otherwise it's okay.

If you see a "No Turn On Red" sign, don't do it. Otherwise it is legal, but make sure you stop and look before turning.

If the light is red & there is no sign saying "no turn on red", stop completely & look for traffic...then you can turn. Just make sure you stop, otherwise if a cop sees you...you'll get stopped.

Also, look for pedestrians. If they have a signal saying they can walk...then it's legal for them to do so, but if the signal says "don't walk" then you can go. Most people don't realize that it's illegal for a pedestrian to walk on a crosswalk when their signal tells them otherwise. Also, if you see random crosswalks & there is no crosswalk signal then it's 100% legal for the pedestrian to walk, even into oncoming traffic. There are many of these such zebra crosswalks down at the oceanfront. By law, vehicles have to stop if a pedestrian wants to cross the street at one of these crosswalks. I drive a government vehicle for the state & constantly have to watch for pedestrians. Most don't realize what they're allowed & not allowed to do.

I don't think that's right. <sarc>
I moved here from Jersey 3 years ago & found out quickly that the rule is:
"Right turn on red...at all costs. You come to a crawl, stop if really necessary, but gun it so you can beat out oncoming traffic which has the right of way. Oh & I almost forgot, do this all while texting"!

NJR....Hampton Roads isn't the only place this is done. Don't blame the area, blame the people who have the bad habits! When the law is passed (as it was in NJ), people will scream about their rights.

Yes, I have noticed this aswell. I'll be driving happily along in my lane, doing the speed limit & all of a sudden a random car shall come along--almost side swipe me as they cut me off to get into my lane infront of me, then apply their brakes suddenly and almost rearend the car infront of them in the process. As I slowly look for traffic & then move carefully to the lane next to them to get around, I'll normally eye the driver in the "crazy car" & see that they're not only on their cell phone but also eating a sandwich & trying to drink a milkshake all at once.

This is when I knew I was truly in Hampton Roads.

Oh and lets not forget the drivers that like to drive in two lanes because they don't realize where the lines are on the pavement. I have a good laugh also when watching drivers trying to turn right & see them veer to the left & make a wide right turn. Makes me wonder if they believe their car shall tip over...
