Hi! We just moved here from overseas and are considering getting a dog. I am a person who likes to know what she puts herself into before doing it, so I wanted to ask of people who know their way around here already. I know that by law dogs are not allowed into restaurants - but does anybody know dog friendly restaurants where you could go with your dog and sit on the patio in the area? I am talking mainly about Newport News/Hampton area. Thanks a lot for recommendations, Sonja

Only if they are working dogs. Otherwise they are not allowed in restaurants.

Actually, although there aren't any that I've found in the Hampton/Newport News area, a quick trip across the bridge will give you a few decent options. This website lists one in Williamsburg and several in Virginia Beach. There are no dog-friendly restaurants listed for Hampton or Newport News.

Yeah, I can't think of too many places that are especially dog friendly in Hampton/NN.

A list I saw included the Chipotle and Tropical Smoothie chains.

You might check to see how dog friendly Peninsula Town Center (in Hampton) and City Center at Oyster Point (in NN) are.

While there may not be a lot of pet friendly restaurants in the area, the area as a whole has lots of "Bark Parks" and pet resources (vets, stores, etc).

Most places don't care if you sit out on the patio with your dog. Unfortunately, the US hasn't adopted Europe's dog-friendly laws. It's not on the peninsula, but if you ever find yourself in Virginia Beach, try out 757Crave at Marina Shores for breakfast or lunch. They just opened last week for the season and they are dog friendly. They will even bring out a bowl of water for your pup! It's one of our favorite places!
