The first question I always ask when I meet someone who is from the Hampton Roads area is if they are a fan of Sharon Redd and her music.
Usually most of the people I ask will have no idea who I am talking about but every once in a while somebody will know exactly who she is and say "HELL YEAH"

I know it has been almost 20 years since she passed away but great music lives on forever. How popular is Sharon Redd's music in the Hampton Roads area?

Does her family still live in the area? Do local radio stations play her music?

Never heard of her and never heard her on the radio, although since radio around here is so bad I listen exclusively to satellite.

Just as a general rule of thumb though, unless you're a mega-star, with songs that long most stations will not play it.

Well she could easiily be considered a MEGA-STAR. LEGEND. DIVA etc...
She has fans all over the world.
People have been dancing to her music in the clubs for over 30 years now.
All the major clubs in NYC, LA, MIAMI, SAN FRANCISCO, WASHINGTON DC etc..

No, mega-stars include Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Elton John and people of that caliber.

I'm not saying she's not popular with some people, but certainly she hasn't withstood the test of time which, in the music industry is usually short lived unless your a mega star.

I have to disagree with you.
Sharon has been dead since since 1992.
Unlike all the current modren crap which is popular right now the PRELUDE record label was very innovative and ground breaking.
Sharon had just as many hits as Michael Jackson did as a solo artist.
I could also argue that Whitney Houston and Celine Dion are not even in the same league as Sharon.
I own thousands upon thousands of 12" records by many different artists Whitney and Celine inlcluded.

^ Sharon's In The Name Of Love b/w Never Give You Up 12" record is probably the greatest 12" record I have ever purchased.
That record was released 28 years ago.
Definitely has stood the test of time.

What kind of major club are you talking about? I've been to a ton in this area and in major cities such as San Francisco/DC and have never heard of her before...

She's not bad, but I had never heard her music prior to opening this thread. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say she's not very popular in Hampton Roads. Was she born in the area or something?

I've never heard of her. I think you are in a very small fan club.
