My husband and I moved here a month ago. He is puertorican and I am white. No one that we've encountered could care less! This is a very well integrated area and I've seen many mixed couples since we've been here - all races.

There's racism everywhere in this country unfortunately, I've lived in many places around Va. and the US and Hampton Roads is about as good a place for a mixed-race couple as one could hope for because there are many mixed-race people (such as myself).

Oh, you guys are gonna love this one: I'm black (of Jamaican descent, to be precise), and my wife...well, she's white...she's about as white as you can get. Remember Adolf Hitler's obsession with the Aryan race? He was only referring to the NORDIC Aryans...you know, the blonde-haired, blue eyed ones? My wife is of Aryan descent, but not Nordic...she's of the original Aryans...those that are unaware of where original Aryan peoples resided, it takes up an area near the Caspian Sea in what is now known as IRAN. That's right...my wife is Iranian...now that's something to explain to the curious on-lookers. Thankfully, neither one of us has experienced any negative encounters with the locals in regards to our marriage, her accent , or her nationality. I'm sure we will run across it eventually, and more than once even, but it may happen here, it may happen in Chicago, New York, or even Juneau, Alaska. Racism, fascism, xenophobia, and all the other -isms and -phobias will always exist thanks to our good friend...IGNORANCE. I once read a bumper sticker (bumper stickers are becoming quite insightful these days) that said "The single greatest threat to our national security is ignorance," and I believe it to be true....but I digress. Look, the two of you love each other, and no matter where your travels take you, that love will be the driving force behind how you live your lives. What people say and do should not matter to you. If anyone is willing to take your life because you fell in love, then know that you may die defending true love. Kudos to you for being open minded, and screw anyone who thinks otherwise. Live your lives to the fullest, and be happy and content knowing that you have each other...and no one else...regardless of where you lay your head to rest.

People should live anywhere in america, but we all know racism will always excist in America. It's very sad and we are in the 21th century. Who cares about interracial couples, I think it's a good ! Live where you want to live !

Stay away from areas that are all white or all black and there shouildn't be any problems. Besides I don't really think you could call Puerto Ricans a race. On the island itself, there are white, black, and mulatto people.

Shouldn't be a problem. Puerto Ricans, unless they are black are considered and widely accepted as white.

There is a little bit of racism in the area but not much to mention. Most of it is hidden and pretty strictly in the more rural areas. Those who are racist here would hardly notice a black/white couple but even they wouldn't think twice of a Puertorican/white couple. The more rural the area the more likely you will meet a little ignorance, but even there it's not too bad anymore. I live in NC but I'm from Virginia. You'd probably have to look hard to find it in VA. NC is a little worse but even there it's dying quickly. Isn't this a great country?

The City of Virginia Beach is racist period, the VBPS and VBPD are all racist, and discriminate against african americans, interracial couples and children. The City of Virginia Beach pay off people they discriminate against, so you will never here about it. The news stations in hampton roads are down with the cover ups also.
