While a nice plan, unless the city does indeed come together with TCC and spearhead this project (read: finance) nothing will be done for a very long time. With the closure of JFCOM, the Riverfront still developing their land and the still sluggish real estate market, this project will be years away if we wait for private development.

In the "Distinction" magazine the developers Armada Hoffler said the Westin tower is the last project many will see in their lifetime in VA Beach. (Sad, pathetic, but that's another issue)

I just can't see this major development going on in Suffolk when already started development hasn't finished and still has a ways to go.

I don't see the city putting up too much for the project because the majority of council members are not from North Suffolk. As I'm sure you're aware, North Suffolk and Downtown Suffolk are like two different cities. I don't see many being terribly supportive of North Suffolk getting another major development (with city funding) while their areas get nothing.

Either way I hope the project does advance and construction starts within the next five years, but I'm not holding my breath.

Well we'll know soon. According to Suffolk's city manager Selena Cuffee-Glenn, the city and TCC will be meeting next week to discuss the next steps.

I wonder since this is what the Urban League came up with, and Mayor Johnson wants to follow there direction, if thi means the end of the planned Harbour View Town Center by the movie theatre? Though not identical, the two projects have big similarities and are would be so close to each other. Then again, the planned Hampton Roads Crossing project is only minutes away on College Drive, so I guess thats the future of North Suffolk, mini communities within short distances.

True, but keep in mind it was the city that decided they wanted to keep the southern ends "rural heritage." I remember when developers were talking about that massive "Four Farms Project" off White Marsh Road, supporter complained it would have already been built had it been in North Suffolk. I agree though, it does seem as the city is playing favorites.
