I am a 49 year old night owl who thinks life does not start until 10 pm. There is very little mature entertainment out here, mostly you are faced with going out with twenties who enjoy drinking, screaming, making out and barfing, all at the table next to you, hahaha. Although there was a time I probably liked that thing, I really like going to hear some music and not have screaming squadrons (I do not begrudge their chance to blow off steam) passing out next to me. We to Conklin's alot because they have a lovely crowd, no smoking, and late night food, but we would love to be able to go to more venues like that.

Where Conklin's? We're in the late 40's as well and have been looking for a weekend retreat (I'd have to take an afternoon nap to stay up past 10pm). We enjoy the music at Abbey Roads and the food is really good.

I LOVE live music, and I too am of the more, ahem, mature crowd. Never heard of Conklins...where is it??
You know what...the heck with the young one's issues, us older folks are the ones with a REAL shortage of places to go!!!!

I've visited Chicago, Charlotte, NYC, and Philly and i always leave thinking why can't VA be like this.
Personally, myself, am more of an urbanite && not so much a suburbanite, which in order to live in Virginia beach, it's pretty inevitable.
Besides the new developments going up on Virginia Beach, BLVD we are definitely the suburbs. And if you don't have a car, don't think you're going anywhere.
And hospitality, i've lived here all my life && never really felt as though i fit in. Nobody has ever went out of their way to help me when i needed it. My car wouldn't start and i was standing out of it and it took 45 minutes for somebody to even acknowledge there was a problem.
I moved to Richmond, && Wisconsin && fit in immediately, and that wouldn't seem like the case.
The only time of the year remotely exciting in Va Beach is, of course, summertime.
I would like to live in a city where it doesn't shut down at 8:00pm.
Maybe when i have a family, Va Beach will be the place for , and even then a place like Savannah, GA, or Charlotte, NC seems better.
But for a single, college student, looking for a job in marketing, with nothing but potential, VA Beach falls short.
But don't get me wrong, i love Virginia beach because it is and will always be home to me, but I've lived here for 18 years, and i just want to get a move on with my life and switch up the pace.
But thats just my opinion

Nothing new in your first paragraph. Many people in their 20s feel that way. Must be part of spreading the wings and doing your own thing. In our case, we RAN from New Jersey! We couldn't leave soon enough. LOL! After a number of years in FL and getting bored down there (where places were open until 8 or 9 p.m. and CLOSED all day Sunday,) it was a move to VA. Still like it here. But I wouldn't mind eventually moving to Midlo or even Fredericksburg.
P.S. I'd NEVER move back to NJ.

Amen to that!!
I think our age group is a little reserved with spending money though. Shoot, for two beers, you can buy a six pak, hang out by the pool or play fun games with other friends invited over for the evening. But....it's nice to get out once in awhile. When we went to florida this summer, we went to a couple fun spots within walking distance from our hotel. The entertainment by the pool with a group from Germany was quite fun as well.
I believe the young folks do want to spread their wings and sometimes they come back. I'd never go back home, that place is boooooooooring and the only thing people do up there for fun is eat and drink. The winters are blistery cold with freakin' snow from hell. NOT my gig! I prefer tanning and indulging in the water with sand between by toes!

This generation cracks me up...if they think they have it bad now trying to find a late night activity around town they should of been around here 20+ years ago.......I can remember crawling home every weekend at 5-6 in the morning so there are places to go but nothing like you have in a big city.......Now that I am much older my motto now days is "if it has not happened by 1130 its not going to happen"...LOL

Virginia Beach Blvd. Really good singer there tonight. There will be a nice group of people there I think as well. Good meals. You are treated like family there. Conklin's Irish Rover The singer tonight is a Dublin man and he is fabulous! He is only here every so often, so don't miss the chance.
