i just arrived here a month ago so im also clueless on where to go or even what to do. but i have a friend in new york who is on summer vacation and wants to drop by next month for 3 days. i know he wants to go to the beach for 2 days but when night hits i wont know of any clubs or just anything to do. i already have plans to go to williamsburg on his last day here. if anyone can recommend anything even just so i have a list in case he gets bored on the beach. thanks so much everyone.

oh! and i live near little creek base and i heard there is a beach real close here, anyone know if its worth it to go there i talked to some people yesterday when i was at the virginia beach boardwalk and they said parking sometimes hits $60 just to park.

thanks!

It is not $60 to park at the boardwalk, there are municipal lots and metered stalls down there. Maybe $20 in the peak of summer, but more likely around $5 if you can't find free parking (and you should be able to find free parking before memorial day). You also don't have to go to the strip, there are lots of beaches on the bay, north end, and sandbridge area that are nice as well. Chicks beach is very close to you and you can always find places to park along the streets by the beaches.

Virginia Beach also offers fishing trips, guided kayak tours, has an excellent aquarium, a good go-kart track (real karts), a bunch of nice parks (woodstock, trashmore, first landing), lots of golf courses, and there are some decent restaurants/bars and a comedy club in the town center area near pembroke mall.

If you want something more urban you can head to downtown norfolk to check out the chrysler art museum (free), nauticus (navy museum), walk around the hague area (cool architecture), see a tides game (minor league baseball), hit up a bar on granby st, head town to ghent for a bite to eat or maybe take the ferry from waterside to old town portsmouth where there are also some decent restaurants and cool old houses (historic district).

If you want somethng more organized check out

Shore Dr. near Chicks Beach has fun spots and good places to eat. Also when we go to the beach for a stroll, we park on the side streets a walk a few blocks...after all, we're going for a stroll.
Take your friend to Abby Road Pub. Great food and entertainment that won't break your wallet..
