Gloucester Commute To HR Or NPN??
What is the commute like during normal drive times from the general Gloucester area to New Port News or Hampton Roads? Relocating to that area in a couple of weeks. My girl friend told me that commute is better than living in King William and commuting to Mechanicsville for employment? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have already stated looking for jobs and there are alot of opportunities in HR and NPN...Will be purchasing a home once I make up my mind as to the area...Desire Gloucester due to location between friends and family. Thanks in advance for your assistance..

I have some friends who work at the shipyard who do the commute every day. He said it takes him about 45 minutes each way and usually the I-64 backups are worse than the Route 17 backups which is the road that goes from NN to Gloucester.

Gloucester Commute to NPN
Humm..is there a bridge and tunnel combo I need to travel going south from Gloucester? My friend told me if I am not in the main drive times that would be ideal on the 17..I guess I will have to see myself. Thanks...

No, there will not be a problem commuting from Gloucester to NN. It takes me about 25 minutes to go from City Center area to Gloucester/Hayes (where the York River Crossing Cinema is located). Its probably cheaper too, to live where you are and work over here. Good Luck!

no tunnel/bridge
By the way, there isn't a tunnel unless you're going to Portsmouth or Norfolk. You'll have to cross the george Coleman from Gloucester to Yorktown and that should be it, depending on exactly where you will be working.

Gloucester Va
If you end up living in Gloucester you can purchase an EZ Pass. The toll on the bridge will only cost .85 instead of $2.00
I have sold a lot of homes to families who love it there. Everyone of them worked across the bridge in Hampton, York County or Newport News. You end up with more house on a larger lot in Gloucester versus other areas in Hampton Roads. There is a builder offering brand new homes there for around $200k. If I can help in any way please let me know.

I live in Gloucester and I am trying to move out of here so here is my list of pros and cons for you. It has little or no night life, The fact that even if you live here you have to pay a toll to "get back in" is totally ridiculous. The main store is walmart which is so packed each time you go in that you actually have to push ppl with your cart to get through it. In my opinion the court system has to be worked on alot also to keep up with the times. Housing prices are ridiculous compared to wages here. Tell me how someone can afford a $1200 rent making minimum wage being a single person with a child. And if you need help GOOD LUCK because ppl don't care how hard you are trying here all they care about is how much you make or what you can do for them. I mean yes there are some perks here if you have a great job making great money, the beach is nice when it isn't packedand if it is there is always the motel pool which last summer cost $3 per person to use and usually is clean. I wouldn't stay in the motels though because i have stayed in both and the one had bed bugs so we left and the other was completely nasty however the comfort in is lovely if you can afford it. The guniea jubilee and the daffidil festival are nice. And main street historical areas are well preserved. Even though I have enough gripes for myself to move from here, you may like it but if i were you i would worry less about the commute time and more about other stuff. Oh and the school system is horrible so if you have children that may be a factor.
