Hi all!
We are looking at camping here next spring but I'm having a couple issues and hopefully someone can help me out.
I wanted to see if anyone could help with info on First Landing State Park. I'd like to see pics of the campgrounds, how close they are to the water, etc. I haven't been able to find much. Anybody camped there before? Does it fill up fast? Any info would be appreaciated.

I used to patrol that area when I was a police officer. The section of camping located on the north side of Short Drive is very close to the water. It does fill up fast in the summer. The area is very sandy and has some tree coverage.
If you put these terms in Google and search for images you'll get some pictures back. first landing state park camping

It's like any other campground, it has it's good and bad sites... It all depends on what type of rig you are camping in...tent , class A etc...some sites are very tight, some sites are nothing more then a spot on some very loose sand and some sites are outstanding... My biggest complaint when I use to camp there was that it backs up to a very busy road so traffic noise can be a problem. The closest sites to the water back up go the dunes but you still have to walk to the walk over bridge to gain access to the beach and that can be a pretty good walk depending on what site you are on. Campground is very, very busy in the summer.... Loose sand and serious bug problems due to standing water will be the two biggest compaints you will see when reading the reviews but you can't beat it's location right on the bay

We found the sites to be very small for our trailer and at the time we had a folding camper. Have you tried North Bayshore Campground? Nice, natural and spacious without all the conjestion and noise from shore drive.

after zooming in in google maps, it appears I'd probably want to be on the outer loop towards the water? Close to beach, far from road. We have a pop-up, so almost any site will work for us. Are there cement or rock pads on each spot or does it vary? I did the images/google search and most appear to be dirt.

Thanks Erma, I will add that to our list of possible places!

We rode our bicycles around the park so we could see the sites. There are pads, but not much room to put the awning out. The areas around the pads are dirt/beach sand.

By the way, the link I sent you is on the water as well and 2 miles from Sandbridge beach. They rent jon boats and canoes too! Very reasonable rates and very close to the fruit/vegetable stand on Sandbridge road. Nothing like fresh picked roasted corn an a big ol' watermelon!

You should not have to large of a problem finding a site in the springtime... If you are looking for something close to the "strip" dont waste your time on North Bay Shore campground. The Holiday travel park can be a second option for you if needed

BTDT.. here is how it works..

Go to the State Parks Website and reserve a site.. you will be reserving a site but not a specific site.. the sites are reserved by length and type IE: 45ft RV or tent..

When you arive at check-in Mr/Ms Ranger will advise you of the site numbers available that fit your reservation and ask you to choose one.

State Parks are full on Weekends.. busy in Summer (school out) but great on week (school) days..

It's a great Park and location.. have fun..

Actually rtandc, there are alot of people who go to NBS so they can hang out at the beach, visit the farmers markets, shop and such. They find it much more economical and there are laundry facilities, arcade and a pool for the kids without the vast overload of campers like Holiday has. They have canoes, paddle boats and kayak rentals as well so the campers can paddle about or fish.
