Anyone been to the Williamsburg Pottery Factory since they redesigned it? How is it?

Funny you ask, I was just there yesterday. In one word: terrible.

The prices were high, the quality was mediocre, there was a lot of empty space, some of the merchandise was just junk hauled over from the old buildings and worst of all there were no deals at all.

The food and wine building (A, I think) was the best. Very nice wine selection and the Au Bon Pain made the place feel more alive (they also have one outside in the parking lot but I didn't go into that one.)

Unless they make big changes and do it fast they'll be in big trouble. I didn't see people buying much.

They really should have just remodeled the old buildings and allowed outside vendors to come in every weekend for the biggest flea market in VA. They had the land, and they had the space...
I think they would have made a killing doing that.

If you do go post your review!

Bummer! I was afraid that it might not be the place to find amazing deals anymore. That's bound to happen when you revamp and redesign--the whole reason they had the bargains was that they spent next to nothing on the buildings.

The best deal I ever got there was a pair of lions I found in the outdoor statuary section. Huge lions for $29 each. Boy, those were the days.

Speaking about places that temporarily closed, what's the latest on Presidential Park? Any news when it will reopen?

We're going down again for Cinco de Mayo weekend. Sure, I'll post a review. I know that I won't be able to resist stopping by to take a peak--curiosity wins out, no matter how bad it may be. And who knows, maybe I'll get lucky.

What a coincidence this question should come up. Just this weekend, a columnist in the local paper wrote about the new Williamsburg Pottery Factory.

In a word, her opinion is the same as Coconut and Erma. Caladium, if you go, let us know what you think.

Sorry, I guess my last post was more than a word, wasn't it?

Just my two cents, but if the Pottery Factory stops being the place to get bargains it's going to go out of business in under 5 years. Wonder what would become of the new buildings if that happens? Maybe that 55+ golf community across the street could buy it and convert them into condos.

It was getting pretty junky there for awhile. I enjoyed it more in the late 80's, but somehow the bus groups seem to love that place.

You know they changed because shopping habits changed. It was a ghost town prior to the renovation. T As for deals , prices don't seem as sharp as they used to be but prices at the outlets don't either. I went looking for mens shorts at the outlets yesterday. (at the outlets) I could find cheaper prices at Macy's than the outlets.
