Are there any places you might see surfers, especially after a storm? Where are the best spots?

You'll see some at the north end of Croatan and the south end of the main beach area. The best spots are down at Hatteras in NC.

My pals who surf usually go to the North End (somewhere between 80th Street and 50th). Sometimes they'll do Croatan or Sandbridge.

Virginia Beach, Sandbridge and OBX (Outerbanks, North Carolina).

Is this the same beach that had the photo in the thread about beaches?

That looks like a great place. So the surf is ok there? Nice to know because it would probably also be the easiest one to get to if coming from Williamsburg (at least that would be my guess).

The places to find surfers varies greatly depending on swell direction, tide, and where the good sand bars happen to be at the time. The places you are guaranteed to see surfers in Virginia Beach are the first street jetty - 5th street area and the north side of croatan at the other side of the inlet. Otherwise it can be sporadic. If the surf is up, you can find people at almost any location but that is kind of rare this time of year as the summer patterns usually do not produce a lot of waves around here until we get deeper into hurricane season.

As others have said, the outer banks tends to have better waves than VB. But VB can definitely be fun under the right conditions.

As far as I know, the surf is pretty good there. The only time I've ever surfed in my life was there (65th Street). But like UHgrad said, the specific spot jumps around a bit, so 65th might be good for a while until sandbars and whatnot form in other spots.

Croatan or Sandbridge in VB. If you want to take a road trip, Hatteras, N.C.
