Default Virginia Beach Labor Day weekend 2012 - beachstreetusa

What's happening my friends in VB.
I will visit VB this labor day weekend to see all the great music and possibly the Marathon, and the surfing contest down at the oceanfront.
The problem is I always come during holidays and can do very little to inquire about transferring back to Tidewater for my job (federal government, not military). Once the opportunity opens I want to transfer back to Va. Beach. I hope this time I can get to one or two of the places (they are in Norfolk) that are opportunities for me, on one of the regular work days.
Anyway, the music should be great, is anybody going down to see some of the music ?

Hi Coastalbum! Good to see you! Hope you enjoy coming back home for the holiday weekend. Here's some more information on the American Music Festival. I was going to put it in a separate post, but I saw your thread on Labor Day Weekend activities and figured that would be the perfect place!

Verizon Wireless American Music Festival at the Oceanfront

Friday, August 31 through Sunday, September 2

The sounds of rock, jazz, country, blues, R&B, and more flood the Virginia Beach oceanfront for three sun-filled days over Labor Day Weekend at the Verizon Wireless American Music Festival. The largest outdoor music event on the East coast, the Verizon Wireless American Music Festival brings together local, regional, and national acts to play on a gigantic stage on the beach at 5th Street as well as stages in all parks along the beautiful Virginia Beach oceanfront. Festival goers by the thousands love the appeal of being outdoors on the beach with the Atlantic Ocean providing the perfect background for some of the greatest live music of all time!Food vendors, beer, and merchandise kiosks enhance the festival atmosphere along the boardwalk.

Exclusive VIP passes provide separate entrance to the area right in front of the stage for viewing Friday and Saturday concerts, access to heavy hors d’oeuvres, VIP-only port-a-johns, two free beers or wine, and tickets to both Friday and Saturday concerts.

Tickets for Friday are $15 advance, $20 day of show.
Tickets for Saturday are $15 advance, $20 day of show
Tickets for Sunday are $25 advance, $30 day of show.

A 3 Day Passport Pin, at $35, provides admission to all three Main Stage concerts and preferred viewing area access to the 24th St. Beach Stage ALL weekend but has LIMITED space. This area is available on a first come, first serve basis. Passport Pin Vouchers may be redeemed for a 3 Day Passport pin at the Virginia Beach Visitor Center after August 20 or at the box office on the day of show. 3 day Passport pins will also be on sale at the Virginia Beach Visitor Center (no service fee) located at 2100 Parks Avenue, Virginia Beach after August 20.

Thanks LilyLady! I will be there coming back to many memories of living most of my life in VB! I will likely run in the Run & Roll Marathon too! (But maybe the Mini- Marathon!)

Question for anyone who has attended this festival in the past: Can I bring a beach chair if I plan on trying to get a spot close to center stage at 5th Street? We have our weekend pin passes but having never been to this event before have no idea on the seating layout. Do most people just stand? I could find nothing on the website with this information. Also, can we bring a small cooler with pop/water in (no booze)? We are going to try our luck tonight with a beach blanket and I guess we will get a better idea of the layout then, but just thought if anyone is here now and can give pointers that would be great! Have a happy weekend everyone!

When my family was at the oceanfront for a festival, coolers were okay, but not if we had glass bottles. Where we were there were chairs already set up for ticket holders, so if you want to bring your own chair or blanket to get close to the stage, you might want to get there very, very early. Usually, the areas of the boardwalks around different stages have been blocked off with cones and security people. I can't remember what the 5th street stage is like, so I really can't remember if I've been to that particular stage area or not.

Hope you have a great time! It's supposed to be some awesome music!

It was very cool! I was there all weekend! Candlebox was awesome Friday night and the best of all the whole festival. I saw a cool reggae/rock band called Bimini Road on Saturday night around 6:30 on 27th street. It was very nice and got to hang out with one of my best friends up in VB. Thanks Lil' Lady for all the info. I still can't move back until I transfer my job there!
