No, they are a garden variety spider around here from what I gather and they also come in red and green as well as yellow and orange. They do get huge! My mother-in-law had one at the front of her house a couple years ago and just let it do its thing. They are harmless, just big. I agree, too many spiders here! I'm always getting into webs too!

We have one of those spiders who comes out every night on our patio. They are harmless and it's a blast to watch them spin a brand new web every night!

I took a pic of him a little over a week ago. The flash kind of washes him out.

Default NY spiders are bigger

We live in New York State and are planning to move to Va. but if you want to see really big spiders you should see the ones we have here! They are up to
3 1/2 inches and brown and scaley! You can hear them when they run! We live in the woods about 77 miles north west of Manhattan. They are Wolf Spiders, they don't spin webs as they are ambush hunters...seriously!

Default Silk Spiders

Yes I also witnessed the mutant sized spiders and I had the city inspectors come out, plus the local Orkin man who both laughed and explained that they are extremely harmless spiders that usually live in bushes, trees and rooftops. They mainly stay, and web out of the reach of people and animals and they feast on mosquitoes, crickets, locust, insects like that. You see i hav ea small child and I needed answers. We have alot of kids here and there has not been any issues. They look more frightening than they actually are, they are usually, red, yellow, orange or white usually with black. What you do want to watch out for are the big brown and black spiders. The minute that they bite you, they inject a venom that decays your flesh from the inside (like some species of snake) you have to get the infected tissue cut out before it moves through your body. watch it./

What neighborhoods are you guys finding these "killer spiders" in? Ive lived in VB for 35 yrs and have never seen anything larger than silver dollar size. From what I under stand, colorful spiders are harmless. Its the larger brown(Recluse?) or black(Widow) you want to look out for and these guys are usually hidden.

I live in Newport News and just bought a house. I have, so far, had at least 5 black, hairy spiders measuring 1 1/2 to 2" length. They have a body similar to tarantulas, they seem to have keen eyesight, and they are mostly on the floor when I find them, though I did find a lighter grey/brown spider very similar to them on the wall the other day- it was only about 3/4 inch though. What the heck are the huge black ones??

If this is the same type, it's harmless. They are just a garden spider, and they are very active web-builders!

Mississippi Yellow Garden Spider

PS. Why do you capitalize every word? Just curious, and no offense, but it seems like a lot of work, and it makes your post a bit difficult to read....?
