I think one of the issues for understaffed clinicians is that most of them want to work in the larger cities. From what I've seen of Sentara, they are really putting their mark on things in the HR area. Riverside seems to be running in a close second.

As far as my background, billing is my primary specialty. But, I'm trying to keep my options open. Hopefully I will be able to find something that will sustain me.

In regard to the 2 year schools, it's the same here.

I went on an interview recently for a part-time teaching position for one of those trade schools. The director who interviewed me said that each class is 12 days long. How can a person possibly learn medical assisting in 12 days with a curriculum of 12 classes? Students pay $11,000 for programs such as that.

That's a bit much for even me in teaching something so hurried like that. Some of those schools are not so good and then there are others with excellent reputations. I don't want my name on anything done in 12 days unless it's a diet.

Regards,

Regards,

Well I dont think quality is the concern of most of those schools, to be honest. I completely agree that its impossible to teach someone properly in such a limited amount of time, and I think the number one concern of those schools is pushing as many kids/adults in and out of the door and seperating them from their 10-50k.

If its just a job you want, thats probably an option. I wouldnt say it would ever be anything you could seriously take pride in though.

As for Sentara, please dont even mention their name. They are taking everything over, and the quality of care you receive is a joke. I once sat in the ER for 11 hours with what could have been a ruptured apendix without even a single exam done on me. If you can walk in to the ER, you are likely not being seen for the next 10 hours. I dont know if thats what all ER's are about, but anything with Sentara on the building certainly is.
