Va beach is a very nice place to live. Very good schools, and close to many places that are entertaining. I have lived in the kempsville area since 1993, and my daughter's family lives here as well. While not perfect, it's a good place to live. We are very happy here.

Arrowhead and Carolanne farms are really good areas. You might hear about Arrowhead being a bad place, but its one of those places where the kids know what goes on, so it seems like a bad place to them, but its nothing bad enough for adults to even notice. I know that because I've lived there since I was six years old and Im almost thirty now. Your kids bike might get stolen, but you aren't going to get robbed. The businesses in the area do get robbed a lot though. Seven eleven on Newtown rd and Arrowhead drive, and burger king in Arrowhead shopping center get robbed like they are on some type of schedule. There's only four or five bars in that area and they are all on the outskirts of the neighborhoods and all on the same main road so no bar traffic will be driving through. The neighborhoods are also layed out in a way that unless someone lives in that neighborhood, they wont be driving through so traffic is very low. You can't cut through arrowhead to get anywhere else and carolanne farms is the same way since the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River cuts them both off in the back area of the neighborhood. Theres really no point in getting off the main road because you just have to get back on it to get out of the neighborhood. The Arrowhead and Carolanne Farms neighborhoods attend Arrowhead elementary, Larkspur Middle School, and Kempsville High School, all of which are some of the better schools in Virginia Beach.

One more thing...Mayfair Apartments sits on the edge of Arrowhead. Stay away from those apartments. Carolanne Terrace isnt too bad but it sits right next door to the Burger King that gets robbed regularly and everyime it has been robbed, the person robbing it ran into that apartment complex. They were probably just cutting through on their way to the Point-of-view area that is another area to avoid.

I live in Chesapeake and I can be in Va. B or Norfolk in less than 5 mins. I like the location because I am in the middle of all the major cities and can get to them really quickly. Where I live it's not that bad & am to a single mom who just recently move here too. So you might can try looking into Chesapeake. I mean no area no matter where you move is 100% perfect. But if you can come down & visit some of the cities here in the Hampton Roads area it would be great. But I think the price you are looking to pay for rent in the beach, may get you a 2 bedroom, but uhm sure. I know you can find something nice here in Chesapeak thou. But the best way to judge for yourself is visit first or move to the beach like you want & than in a year or however your lease will be move somewhere else of your liking & price range. I mean I am willing to show you around once you get here if it's ok. Good luck!!
