Will be relocating to Ft Eustis this summer and need to figure out setting up an affordable, decent, resident option for about a year or so for myself, until my family can join me, hopefully at that time on post in housing. I prefer a more rural vs urban setting, so any good recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I would think you'd want to live north/west of Fort Eustis headed toward Williamsburg. If you go east on Rt. 60/Warwick, it's not rural.
Hopefully, someone with better knowledge of this area will post.

I agree with TN Lily that the area north of Fort Eustis would probably be a good fit for you. I've known people who've lived in Lee Hall (the area of Newport News leading to Williamsburg) who've been very happy there. Williamsburg, itself, is also nice, but it's less affordable.

Best of luck.

If you prefer a more rural setting you might like something in the Toano area. It's approx. 30 minutes north from Ft Eustis..maybe a bit less, but it's a fairly easy drive. It's conveniently located, not far off the highway, and close to Williamsburg where there are more restaurants/stores and such, but it does have a very nice, quiet feel. Hope this helps!
