I just moved down towards Sandbridge. Should I start toting a gun and wear my hood colors? lol I was thinking red and black plaid. I'm tough, yo.

So much truth there. Walk into any place showing money and acting like you have it and you'll find yourself getting bopped on the head on the way back to the car. I don't care where you are (except maybe in church) - it's the gaudy display of wealth that gets you in trouble, not the having it.

Kings Grant and Great neck areas are rather safe. Definitely more expensive, but there are some townhouses that can be rented as you save for a house.

The problem with Va Bch and Hampton Roads in general, is that you have inter-connected cities. Many times you hear about "So and so" from this city were arrested in another city for committing "X" crime.

Gangs are almost everywhere because it's easy to get around from city to city.

Our city's stats are low.. however, people relate crime statistics of Va Bch to other "Big Cities" - when we should be considering Hampton Roads as one entity for crime statistics. I imagine the area as a whole would be pretty high on the list.

Just about every spring, a group of teenagers decides that they want to go around using a BB gun on people's cars and homes. This has happened for the past 5 years or so.

Virginia Beach has some good areas though, but because they are "high end," those areas are usually the center of antagonizing acts like above mentioned.
What's the name of the apartment complex where you live, where that happened? That would be helpful....

Just be weary of neighborhoods like Lake Edwards, Campus East, the neighborhoods in the Green Run section of the city, some of the stuff near the VB Blvd/Birdneck intersection, and some of the places in the Pembroke section of city (ex. Aragona and Pembroke Square at night). Those are the only places I can think of worth avoiding, and for a city as large as VB is, I think that's pretty good. Like most everyone else has said, most of this city is fine. And as long as you're able to keep your wits about you in an area that's a little shady, you should be okay. I would drive around and explore a little bit, both at night and in the day, and find out where you feel comfortable.

Lake Edwards has alot of section 8, Lynbrook Landing and Campus East aren't any better. These areas are on the boarder of Norfolk & Va Beach. The 3rd Precinct moved into the 7-11 on Baker Rd. a few years ago just so they could respond to the club violance and drug dealing in those areas.
