We are looking to move to an area just at the entrance of Green Run. It looks okay and nice. Has the Green Run area changed recently in 2015? I know it had a bad rap years ago, but hasn't it improved?

You should be able to get some better responses than mine since I have never lived in that area. But even if Green Run area has not gotten any better. A lot of the so called "good areas of VB" are not so good anymore. So if you decide to not live in Green Run area don't assume another area isn't just as bad. VB def has had an increase in crime the last handful of years.

I wouldn't say the reputation of Green Run has changed since I was in high school... it is still called "gang run" by some people and most look at it as one of the sketchier parts of VB. Green Run always got a bad rap IMO, there are really just a few pockets that are sketchy, in an otherwise decent community, around Dahlia Dr or over in Magic Hollow (kind of considered green run). Virginia Beach, by the statistics, continues to be a very safe community despite what people say about it "getting worse" every year. I think it is just human nature to think things are getting worse, especially if you watch the news a lot. VB is one of the safest large cities in the U.S., has one of the lowest crime rates in the region, and violent crime rates have generally been dropping or staying steady over the last decade according to crime statistics.

But that's just my opinion... opinions vary.

You can research and see crime reports online.

ePRO - Electronic Police Reports Online :: VBgov.com - City of Virginia Beach

Then you can decide.

Green Run's always interested me, and as per original post.. I don't think it's any gotten any better or worse over the last 20 yrs.
It's an interesting area to me (anecdotally), I view it as the beginning of the new Va Beach (part of the development of southern VB during it's 70s thru 80s population boom). Bcuz even with new, attractive development, it seemed to slide quickly. Green Run High was a big, shiny school, I think the largest in the Commonwealth, when it opened in the late 70s. But just a few years later, it was Gang Run, & it seems like all the relatively new development around Gang Run got beat-up quick. GR looks like it was planned/developed for condo-dwelling early-80s yuppies, who either never bit, or were quickly displaced by semi-ghetto'fied families crammed into the townhouses. I talked to a guy who was involved in construction during the late 70s, who helped develop some of Gang Run, he stated that a lot of that construction was basically cheap, so the housing got devalued quickly. Which passes my personal eyeball test, because Green Run (structurally and demographically) looks different from older, brick areas of VB (ie Thoroughgood, Thalia, etc). Just my take.

There are parts of Green Run that aren't that bad. I think the area just has a stigma attached to the name. Which area are you looking at because that makes a difference?

I'm not sure about the accuracy of the database. Quite a few times i have looked up specific incidences that happened outside of my home and they were no where to be found. You know they have to keep up the image of the "Resort City".
