Hi,

I'm going down to Newport in a few weeks with my parents and sister. Sis is staying at the Marriot on Hampton at ODU for work reasons. Is this a good place to book my parents as well? I want them to be somewhere they can walk around, shops, restaurants, etc. Or would it be better to book them at the downtown Marriot. ODU would be more convenient since sis is already there, but if it's just the campus, frat houses, etc. i don't want to stick my parents there. It's just one night, but i want to take them to dinner, have a place where they can take a stoll after, etc. Any thoughts?

thanks in advance.

Depending on the price, you have more amenities in Downtown Norfolk than Hampton Blvd. There are a few shops over there at ODU but it's just a tropical smoothie, mexican restaurant, deli, gym, etc. The Marriott at Downtown Norfolk or Courtyard would be better. You can walk around in the downtown area, MacArthur Center Mall, Waterside, Harbor Park, and down Boush and Granby streets. There are also numerous restaurants in Downtown Norfolk on Granby street, MacArthur and Waterside. Also, they are clearing out and working on redeveloping one of the neighboorhoods near ODU.

I Definately would suggest downtown. I would not recommend that my parents walk around the outskirts of ODU after dark.
