NEPA-X-Pat, you state "why would I ever share my best lessons and activities with anyone else? It would ome back to bite me in the end" Can you elaborate on that sentence? In the real world, sharing our best practices allow all to grow and the beneficiary is the children. I would hope that giving the children the opportunity to experience your best lessons and activities would be rewarding.... But maybe I am naive and need to be educated....

thanks, shelly

Yeah, me too, NEPA-X-Pat. I don't understand your comments. If you have best great lesson plans and are a truly a great teach- you should be rewarded for that: more money, mentoring or supervise others, etc. Even in my competitive world of real estate, we always share best practices- helps us grow our profession- which in the end means more $$ for all of us-- and a much more pleasant work envirionment.

My sis and best friend are teachers- and I went to school myself- a long time a ago )
I know there are some stinky teachers out there - get tenure and sit on their hind parts. Granted, due to SOL's they at least have to teach SOMETHING (memorization skills).

Maybe hitting them in the pocket book would add a little motivation.

Now i was truly affended when i read these comments imply because i just recently graduated from btw in 08 its funny how people are so quick to judge but are not willing to help the situationi. i honestly believe that Booker t was one of the best schools. For example, you can have the best environment and the worst teachers ( Maury) you can be intergrated and still have gangs and bullies. every time you heard about something on the news regaurding btw it was about the environment or even some students that graduated from there and let life get the best of them. i love this school dearly. never before did i ever have a teacher care for me they way my teachers did. never before did i ever have a counselor track me down to make sure i attended Spelman College, but guess what i do. Booker t. is not only a good school, there we were a family and we were taught to be leaders not followers if you couldn't get wit it thats when dropping out became a fact. so again i love my Alma Mater!

I am really embarassed to admit that I am a teacher (Virginia Beach -Kempsville) and had a negative opinion of BTW. It is really great to hear from students who are intelligent enough to take advantage of what is available to them. Everyone says that the money schools are better, but you eloquently illustrated that this isn't necessarily true.
