Hi,
can anybody tell me is there is an agency or health department in the city where i can send complain about medical billing problems - double medical bills, refusing accept my vision insurance, claiming payment, that already paid almost a year ago. I can't even get a proper print out of my statement from the office. Billing and office managers constantly apologizing for system malfunction, now - after 11 months- they find out they have to send me a credit, but did not send anything. this office is complete mess. how i can get a statement from them. I have all receipts of my payments, but no statement and balance from my record. I had appointment on December 1 in 2014 and until today cannot finished this mess. On September 15, 2015 doctors office even claimed money from my medical insurance, that was paid on the same day i had an appointment. it was just regular annual check up for new glass prescription. But office refused use my vision insurance, even they are EyeMed provider. I feel helpless. Any advises?

Normally one would not file a complaint with a licensing agency over a fee dispute, but it sounds like your professional & his support staff have been inept in handling what should be a simple, routine matter. Has your insurance company been any help? Have you communicated with them over this issue? I realize that getting help from an insurance company seems to be a rare thing.

Suggestions:

1. File a complaint with the Virginia Board of Medicine. There is a menu option on the left on the page below to do this. You need to make it clear that this is not a mater of a simple fee dispute. The professional is unwilling and/or unable to address this matter.

2. File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. You can do this online.

3. I am assuming this is an issue with an ophthalmologist. Check out the website of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The AAO has a code of ethics. If your provider is a member, you may have options with the AAO. Communicate with them and ask.

American Academy of Ophthalmology

Good luck. I hope you are able to get this matter resolved quickly.

Thank you TN Lily,
I have checked American Academy of Ophthalmology, my provider is a member. I will communicate with them. I really feel that without having a print statement from my record I can't prove anything. i did not mention that after several calls to the office i did received handwritten statement (!?) about 5 months ago. it is not a legal document, and it looks like the office does something creepy. My medical insurance helped, after I told them that I do have vision insurance, and they had to call to the doctor office to find out what is really going on. only after this call the office decided to send me a credit.
i will definitely follow your first suggestion too and file a complaint with Virginia Board of Medicine.

Thanks again.
