Default best coastal town in virginia

I am 36, female, divorced, unattached and an optometrist and looking to get out of Pittsburgh, PA. I have had enough winter. I would like a small coastal town, that I can walk or ride my bike to most things. I have a dog and would like the town to be friendly to her too. I need to be close to a city with an airport to visit my family. I have considered opening up a practice. Can someone give me some direction?????

...only big airport here is Norfolk Airport...and some nice homes and apartments in norfolk and va beach area. I live in va beach area myself and 10 min drive to oceanfront is lovely. This is a commonwealth state where lots of people open businesses here. You would have to personally come and see it for yourself with a realtor if your buying a home here. Hard to explain, you have good and bad with different neighborhoods depending where you go. They have lots of festivals here from spring to fall, my favorite is the Bay Day festival.

marhiggins, there are a lot of nice coastal towns, but I would definately keep Virginia Beach in your eyesights. You could live down at the actual strip in a neighborhood called Shadowlawn and get all that. It is a really neat neigborhood on the south end of the beach. And you would be in a big enough market to be able to open your business and feel confident that it would succeed.

Don't forget Williamsburg-Newport News Airport. Hampton has "walk around town" neighborhoods too. Not ocean coastal, but bay coast and much more affordable. Bay Days is my favorite festival too and guess what? It's in Hampton!
