Anyone had their HVAC system replaced recently?

Just received a quote which seems sky high at 16k.

No duct work needs to be done. Just straight replacement of the air handler, furnace, 2.5 ton 15 SEER heat pump, and 2 ton 16 SEER AC(it's a two zone system).

Had my furnace, blower, and 3 ton 15 SEER AC replaced in Michigan for 5k in 2013, so the 16k price seems exorbitant. I understand it's a two zone system, so that's going to add to the price, but 3x?

Was the quote from one of the HVAC companies that advertise on tv?
I'm sure you are getting several quotes. I hope others are not quite so high.
Good luck.

Not one that advertises, but definitely one of the larger companies in the area. The proposal was a bit over the top.

Was getting a bad vibe from the salesman. He added a bunch of work that I didn't feel was necessary(including running two new vents into closets) and 2 $500 touch-screen thermostats.

Funny thing is, the "regular" price was over $20k.

Definitely getting more quotes! If anyone has had any good experiences with anyone, please let me know!

We love Extreme Climates - we had 2 outside AC units replaced, as well as replaced a heat pump with a gas furnace for less than that 3 years ago. They always have great people and the work is fantastic.

Unless you live in a mansion that price is way to high. Maybe the estimate is based on overpriced equipment. Check out other makers such as Goodman. I did a full replacement several times over the years. The last one I replaced was in an 1800 square foot house in Florida with gas heat. The full cost was $3500. I had another estimate that was 3x that. Look for a hungry upstart or a small retired vet company and you will save $$$$.

Note that with Goodman you have to watch out with the installer, since Goodman pretty much has an open sales policy that practically anyone can install them, possibly leading to a substandard install. Brands such as Carrier, Trane, and Lennox, on the other hand, have to be installed by their authorized dealers, which have a specific set of qualifications.

Ended up going with A/C Masters.

They took care of me. Both systems ended up being around 10,500. They were very professional. No problems before/during/after.
