Default Retirement in Hampton Roads

Hi--I am searching for information on retiring in the Hampton Roads area. I will be moving from the Pacific Northwest to the area sometime next year. I was actually born in Norfolk, although I did not live there very long, but this is my favorite area of the country. I have family members who will be living in the area also. I will probably need to rent rather than to buy. In looking into Senior Housing, it seems that the places with the lower rents require a very low income, and the other places have a very high rent (over $3000). Although, I do not have to live in senior housing, I do not want to have a lot of noisy college students upstairs either.

I am also torn between areas where I want to live. I adore Williamsburg, but am also drawn to the areas such as Virginia Beach or Norfolk where there is so much water. An ideal location for me would be somewhere that is close to or has a view of the Chesapeake Bay.

I would so appreciate any feedback you can give me about areas I can explore. Thank you!

Maryann
