Default Affordable Williamsburg

Every thread I read about people relocating to Williamsburg are looking for homes $300-$500K. What about what I consider "normal" people? My husband and I are both teachers, so we won't make a ton of money. Can someone tell me where the affordable, nice, safe neighborhoods are? I saw a listing for Longhill Station and one in Toano---are these safe bets?

There is a new subdivision being built where you can buy a new home for under $300k. Not sure of the price range you are considering or what you are looking for in a home. Do you want a neighborhood with amenities like a pool ? Would you consider an older home or does it have to be newer ? Close to shopping ? Close to where you will work ?

The following are some to consider in the Williamsburg/ James City County area of Virginia in the $250k to $300k price range:
in no particular order:
Springhill
St. Georges Hundred
Longhill Station
Seasons Trace
Fenwick Hills
The Meadows
Villages of Westminster
First Colony
Westray Downs
Powhattan Crossing
Berkeleys Green.

If you answer those few questions I will gladly refine this list.

Thank you so much for your reply. We are looking anywhere from $200K-$300K. We don't mind an older home as long as it is in a nice, safe neighborhood. We also would like to have a little bit bigger lot, maybe a 1/4 - 1/2 acre lot.

There is a home listed in Berkley's Green that is like $289 or $290 and while the home is only like 1800 sq ft (maybe a little smaller) the home sits on 1/2 acre. We looked at the house and it is too small for us, but the neighborhood is awesome and the lot is fabulous! The house looked to be well built, a little older like maybe late 80's early 90's but a really nice lot. You almost have to get into an older neighborhood in order to get the land that you want. Most, not all, but most of the newer homes do not have large lots.

Good luck! We are also looking! I know how hard it can be so if you need any help, feel free to contact me and I can help give you some info on the area and schools.
