We have been thinking about Smithfield...we traveled through there last summer while staying at a State campground.
("Chippokes Plantation?") We liked Smithfield, it reminded us a little bit of where we're from, just without the hills. I'm in the medical field (Cardiac Tech) and my wife works for a not-for -profit organization. She also has many years experience as a case worker with the mentally challenged. We're thinking about doing a weekend (4/11-) any Hotels/suites nearby? Thanks, looking forward to a reply!

No problem finding a job in the medical fields. It is quite plentiful and most have sign on bonuses. Have her check the Sentara group network.

We are also going to stop by the Farmers Market in Merchant's Square on Saturday.
New Town is definitely on our "to do" list. We'll probably grab a bite, shop and see a movie.
Thanks again Mr. Williamsburg for all of the information. Your time and info is greatly appreciated!!

There are a lot of hospitality jobs in Virginia Beach. There was a spotlight done on one major employer through the local job board 757JobsNow.com. This spotlight will highlight some of the great features of working for GoldKey/PHR. I have a personal friend who works in their HR department and they do pay well for good people. They love folks from out of town that can bring their insights of the hospitality field to their company.
If you can't find something on 757JobsNow.com (I personally have had great success hiring for my company on this board) try CareerConnection.com.
Good luck with your search!

Check out the many colleges, too
Hi! Williamsburg/James City County is beautiful, and the schools are excellent, but it is one of the most expensive areas to live in in Virginia, outside of Northern VA (where I am unlucky enough to live). As far as finding a job goes, you might also check into higher education -- there are many universities and community colleges in the area, and some offer hospitality services to the community. You might also check out the museums in the area. Good luck!

AS an FYI home prices in Va Beach are on par or higher than Williamsburg/ James City County. You can buy a brand new condo for under $200k, brand new detached homes for $240,000. I know that's higher than other areas in the US but considering the location and all the area has to offer it's not bad !

yes, that is definitely not bad! Something I will definitely have to look into.
on another note, can anyone tell me what the weather is like at this time? I know Roanoke had a tornado and I posted something in that forum. They say that this type of weather is not typical but not uncommon either.
Now, I know that no one has a crystal ball but, maybe someone can provide us with some insight on weather this time of year?
We will be there in exactly 2 weeks. We are very excited!

It's been in the high 80's/low 90's. Forecasted for rain/storm of some type, but they are usually scattered. Been pretty nice the past week, of course, I love the warm/sunny weather!

So, we finally made it today! We are here in Williamsburg and I have to say that I am really impressed! The area is just beautiful! Definitely a pleasant change from Las Vegas. We stopped by New Town today but did not stay long because my son was hungry and The Green Leafe and Bonefish Grill were packed. It also started to rain but just a little. We ended up stopping by a place called The Library Tavern to grab a sub and some pizza.
Tomorrow we are hitting Busch Gardens if the weather is ok. According to weather.com the real rain doesn't start until Saturday, but we'll see.
From what I've seen so far I think we are keeping Williamsburg on our short list. Everyone that lives here is very lucky!

west to east
I am from the williamsburg area. I've been in Vegas for 22 years. Vegas use to be great but it's turning into mini LA. I'm ready to go back. I have 2 more years to retire. People are a lot different in Va.-a lot of Military in the Tidewater area. Yes, there are problems anywhere but you will find better schools for your son. A lot more culture close by and best of all the beach Suggestion is to visit before moving.
