Safe Apartment Complexes In Virginia Beach Or Chesapeake
Hello All,
I am moving to Virginia Beach/Chesapeake later this week. Will be working on the Norfolk Naval Base. I am looking for a safe 2-3 bedroom apartment or townhome. Couple of things I need to consider:
I will be moving here solo until the summer when wife and 1 possibly 2 daughters (13 and 18) will arrive
Short term complex is fine but not necessary if we decide to live there
I really enjoy grilling so want a balcony or patio
Satellive TV preferred
Like to keep it under 1200 for 2 bedroom
Large Dog (yellow lab) that doesn't bother anyone
Everything else is okay. Any recommendations would be great. I see Runaway Bay, Maple something, Reflections listed ALL OVER CRAIGSLIST.
Thanks in advance everyone. I used to live in Mariners Cove about 15 years ago around the Pembroke Area and felt very comfortable. Heard that may have a little crime issue now. Any suggestions on these places? Again, Thank You

I'm tagging along on this as we are also looking for an apartment/townhouse.
So far Maple Bay is looking like our 1st choice - would love some real-life feedback!
We'd prefer a 2 story 3 bedroom.

Gulfer, my daughter and I looked at apartments in Runaway Bay and they were nice enough. Lovely grounds and pool/office area, small gym. Apartments were relatively cheaply done but nice enough, smallish but decent. The area was decent. Lots of large dogs around (not a plus for us). If you look at some apartment review sites, you'll find some very telling info about this complex and mainly negative reviews. Good luck with your search. We are having a heck of a time finding something from long-distance (daughter moving from NY).

Under $1200?
Wow, is that how expensive things have become around here? 5 - 6 years ago you could buy a 1600+ square foot house in a very good school district in Virginia Beach for less than $170,000.

Yes they have increased about 100K from what I can see. Thanks magjfamily for the input. I'll be there Friday and have basically narrowed it to one in the Pembroke area. I lived in that area before but it was 15 years ago!!!
The reviews were good, I know my route to work, and am going to get a 6 month lease so I can keep my options open but am also looking at possibly buying.

Rentals in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake
If you are looking to rent in the area and like to grill out, you will probably need to stay away from apartment complexes. There are a lot of privately held homes that are not advertised, but are listed on our local MLS. You can search for them on my website, sevahomes.com (don't want to put the link here) I know of a couple of places right now that fit your criteria. Feel free to contact me and I'll give you the scoop. This is not a sales pitch - I am a real estate agent, but I do not handle rentals. However, as a service to our military members, I do what I can to help them find a great place.

Sorry to disappoint but if you rent from a complex it's against the fire code to grill, they'll evict you for it. A lot of complexes have community grills though. However if you must grill then you should get with a relater and rent from a private citizen.
