I too am an ex. Lived in Great Bridge Chesapeake in the Homemont section. Hampton Roads will always keep a place in my heart. I love it and I miss it. Some day I may be back. I hope so.

Just a quick story:

A customer of mine just relocated to Las Vegas where I exist now. Turns out he is from the Indian Road area of Chesapeake so we talked and talked for hours. In fact he just this week flew back to list his home for sale. I bribed him to stop at Virgina Diner in Wakefield to bring me back some of the greatest peanuts on earth. The double dipped chocolate cashews. He brought me back 5 one pound cans.

He is still fighting mad that Bergies Ice Cream closed its doors.

Yoder's Dairy Ice Cream is pretty darn good, too. They built a brand new building behind the old one. The future site of Historic Kempsville!

I agree... it would be nice to talk to locals..

Yoders is great! I am upset even still that Bergies closed.

Do you know that I have not been to Virginia Diner in forever? I am gonna be alone this weekend, the kids will be with their dad over in NNews. Wonder if a trip to Va Diner is warranted? I do want to go around taking pictures this weekend....

I visit this forum, usually every couple days or so, and usually just lurk. I am trying to learn about the area, as we bought a beachfront condo there last Summer. We are almost done with our remodel, so I will be spending most of my Summer there, but don't know anyone. I am early 30's and most of my building is retired, and not particularly friendly, so I'd like to find out where people my age go.
This forum has helped us to find a lot of fabulous restaurants in the area!

I log on just about every day.... I've been in Hampton Roads for about 16 years. I've lived in Norfolk, Va Bch, Chesapeake, and Newport News.

I also am not too fond of this area because of the city divides. HR could get a lot more funding if all the cities pulled together to become the City of Hampton Roads... but that's just me.

I dont know, Kuhari. I don't think I would like if this area became all one city.

I think Hampton Roads is a good place, but thats just me. I couldn't imagine all the cities coming together.

Where is the zoo now? OK, do you remember when we had Norfolk? Yep, its in the part of the city that used to be called Norfolk.

Why do they call it chesapeake Square? Oh. You wouldn't remember. This used to be Chesapeake.

These houses are beautiful. Yep, alot of the older houses in what was Norfolk and Portsmouth are. You just have to find them.

Each city has its own unique thing. They are individuals, just like us people, known for different things. Of course not the examples I have placed here. But none the less, known for their own things. Lump them together and it is just one big place. Not, man I need to get out to _____ to see that. Or whatever the case may be

I used to come here a lot, but there was a period of time when it seemed like the only thing people wanted to do was bash this area so I stopped participating. I still check in every now and then, but I don't really post much anymore.

Not necessarily. Hampton Roads would simply be the official regional title, but still maintain its seven cities, kinda like Long Island does.

Each city would be a portion of the HR region, but we'd be nationally known as HR. I think the merger is the one thing keeping HR from officially getting on the national map. And as long as each city stubbornly refuses to merge, it'll be a while before we officially get recognition. It's gonna take a lot more than a few town centers and downtowns to get on the map.

Off topic but i've always thought that Hampton Roads is a horrible name for the region. In order to truly be recognized, we need a better name first. Something that rolls off the tongue better, and it more geographically recognizable. When I go to other states and I tell someone I live in HR, I get a questionable look. If I then say Va. Beach or the Norfolk area, most immediately know where i'm talking about.
