Default Places to live along the James River

Can anyone recommend a nice, rural place to live along the James River?
Apartments? Houses for rent? or inexpensive houses to buy?

Is the James River good for Kayaking? Is it clean for swimming?

I am hoping to move to that area in the not too distant future. I live now along the Hudson River in NY but cannot take the long freezing winters anymore.

Please write me at yogadancer5252@aol.com or to bbest@lemerygreisler.com

Thank you!
