Dude, because you're trying to pay developers 60k. I'm guessing you're requiring a computer science degree as well? Good luck. Most local grads move up to NOVA and take 90k+/year jobs.

You think it is hard to find entry level? Try mid-career. Very few candidates locally and those that are willing to move here want six figures.

1. Very large military presence

I'm currently in the military, and when my contract ends I will have done almost 6 years of service. By that point, I probably won't be able to stand even being around anything military

2. Pitifully low wages and concerns about employment opportunities

Using the site 'Glassdoor,' I've been looking up the median salary of various occupations in several different locations. Norfolk wages are on par or significantly lower than they are in places such as Birmingham AL, Detroit, Jackson MS, and Toledo OH.

3. Traffic

Tunnel traffic is abysmal at times.

4. Lack of affordable housing

There's just not much housing for a man of my means. There's some, but nowhere near as much a other locations I'm considering (Kansas City, Indianapolis, St Louis, Cincinnati).
1) We have no military friends. There are a few people on our street who are in, but they donít attack.

2) Prior military have a job preference

3) There is traffic everywhere. You should know the rule, live on the same side of the water that you work on.

4) We purchased our house 10 years ago so no current knowledge but remember you have a VA loan.

My niece and her Significant Other just found a nice rental house in Norfolk. He's a recent college grad who got a great job right away. She's still in college at Old Dominion, I think. They won't necessarily move to northern VA when she gets her degree. Her dad is in VA Beach and her mom will probably be moving to Williamsburg from VA Beach. Personally, I do not like the area in general. Too much traffic and it all has a fake feeling, especially VA Beach's fake downtown.

As someone who moved away and the old place is still calling to me, maybe you should stay put. Maybe do some networking and find the right people who can get you into a decent job.
