My family (myself, my husband and new baby) is moving to Virginia because of my husbands new job in Norfolk. Now i have heard to stay away from ocean view because it is a bad area. As i know, all areas have there share of their good and bad parts of town. What is everyones input on ocean view? Specifically west ocean view?

We looked at condo's all over Ocean View last Summer and decided against it because all of the vagrants walking along Shore Drive and congregating in parking lots. The area feels unsafe to me, especially at night. Not necessarily in the residential parts, but if I had to go to the store anywhere nearby, I felt very uneasy. We decided on Chicks Beach.

I know that they are trying to restore parts of OV but it is my understanding that much of it is still pretty sketchy........just be cautious if you decide to relocate to that particular area and do your research. Good luck!

Ocean View near Taylor Landing is nice. Going towards Willoughby Spit is the sketchy part.

We keep our boat at Taylor's Landing and I have to disagree. We looked at Harbour Walk Condominiums across the street and though they were nice, I did not feel safe in the area. Mainly, if I had to go to 7-11 or Food Lion after dark.

OV is a high drug area and anywhere you have drugs there are going to be guns.....it is a scary place and all the time I lived in HR I would avoid that area at all cost.

It amazes me that there are is so much misinformation about oceanview, as in any city there are problem areas. Just because there are more drug arrest in Virginia Beach than Norfolk does not mean you should stay away from Virginia Beach. You can pull up crime reports from every city you will be amazed by where most of the crime is.

I am just speaking from personal experience and what others have experienced from that location........not trying to mislead anyone. Like any area....... people should check it out and see for themselves. They might like the area...who knows!

Sorry if anyone was offended by my statement.
