Hi!

I will be PCSing to the Virginia Beach area in June. First, I am single with no kids. I am considering living in Ghent and commuting to Dam Neck. I have seen many threads about horrible traffic issues, but they seem to focus on those commuting from Virginia Beach to Norfolk and those who may encounter tunnels. My commute appears mostly 264 and no tunnels. Google says its 23miles and about 40minutes. Some local knoweledge and any advice would be most appreciated.

When I first read your subject line, I thought it said commuting from the Ghetto to Dam Neck.

Switching gears...

I know some co-workers who live in Norfolk (some actually live in Ghent) and commute to Virginia Beach, and usually they don't have a problem unless there is an accident that causes a back up. My cousin commutes from Virginia Beach to Norfolk, and it's the same thing. She generally doesn't have a problem unless there is an accident.

Yea, the weather has a factor as well...when it rains, people don't take precautions. Dam Neck is about 4 exits from me and I believe the only problem you'd have with slow traffic is at the interchange and of course as mentioned..accidents.
