On a weekend traffic isn't too bad unless there is an accident or major construction (which does happen). i've driven that route many, many times... went to school in Norfolk for 8 years with my parents in DC.

On a weekday, its a different story and will depend on what time of the day it is.

I would say leave before 11:30am or 12 as opposed to 2pm (ESPICALLY IN SUMMER.) The last time i went to HR, I left Alexandria at 1:30 pm on a friday afternoon in summer didnt get to Chesapeake until 7:00 pm.
