Anyone have any suggestions on good places to buy a bedroom set (mostly just 2 dressers and nightstand - can take or leave the headboard and bed frame stuff)? I have been checking out Craigslist for decent-looking stuff but was wondering if there are any furniture stores that aren't too expensive or even places where we might get second-hand stuff that still is in good shape.

Depends on the city you live. A place I can recommend for having decent second-hand furniture is the large Salvation Army on Virginia Beach Blvd.

I swear by Value City Furniture out at Lynnhaven. We not only got comfortable livingroom furniture at a good price, but in the back, they have discounted items as well. We have one room from Haynes, one from Haverty's and one from Value City and we wished we had bought it all at Value City.

We live in Chesapeake. Thanks for the info on SA and Value City - we'll check those out.

You can get a deal or two out of them, god knows how many times we went there until we found out they were Haynes seconds.

Definitely check out the Dump in Norfolk and Value City (new one at Ches Square Mall). At Value City in the back of the store is a clearance area - might find something there too.
