Hey folks..

I am 34 and recently separated and trying to get an idea of some good places to live. I was born and raised outside of D.C. and don't want to do that area again. My family is from the Poquoson area and I have friends in the Ghent area of Norfolk so the Hampton roads area is not a complete mystery to me.

I have decided on giving the Hampton Roads area a try as I want to stay in VA. I wanted to see if anybody had any recommendations for some areas that might fit what I'm looking for. I don't have any kids and would be looking for an area that offers affordable one/two bedroom places to rent with stuff to do. I love the water, good food, and going out and having a good time. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Yea I was born and raised outside of DC too.
Virginia Beach might be up your alley. Shore Drive, by the Beach etc
I mean I live in Ghent and am in my mid-20 and love it. Plus, we have the college here so there really isn't a shortage of things to do, and you can pretty much walk and if not, you are within 5 miles of everything from the Grocery Stores to the Strip Bar. Ghent though can be pricey but you get what pay for as I have said before. What is your price range? Define Pricey.

Well, $700-800 would be nice for rent.. I know that's not a lot but that's probably about what I'd be able to afford and still be able to eat without having to forage for food in the swamp

I've seen some places on Craigs list in that range but I know a lot of them are in not so nice areas. I do know that my friends in Ghent live in older apartment buildings which are not nice by any means but seem to be safe and the area seems like fun and they pay in that range. I figured that there wouldn't be much in that range in VA. Beach that would be located in a desirable area but I don't know.

No matter where ya live, there is good food, entertainment and such, not far away. Regardless of all the complaining we all do, we all have to agree that our area offers alot compared to cities in general.

Erma, I have read some of your posts and notice that you live in Va. Beach. Are there any areas in the Va. Beach area you could recommend or do you think that Va. Beach is out of my price range?
