My heat pump decided to stop working this weekend (happy 4th to me!) and I need to find a service technician. Given that I have never done this, I need some help.

Could anyone recommend a decent company to go with? Also, how much might it cost to just replace a heat pump for a 2000 sq. foot one story house? I think that only the heat pump needs to be replaced, the blower in the garage works ok (from what I can tell).

Thanks all!

Go with a 3 ton unit heat pump. This will facilitate your sq. footage as well as being efficient. It may be your compressor that is shot and prolly more cost efficient just to replace the whole thing. Heat pumps run anywhere from 2300.00 to 3500.00 dollars. If you own your home and plan to stay there, I'd install a Trane! Home Depot sells them and has the Trane people install them. Had our home not had a new one installed when we bought it, I would have had a Trane put in.
Also, if you have a home warranty plan, call them and submit a claim, pay your co-pay and go that route. Warranty plans save home owners tons of money and are worth every penny! If you don't have a home warranty plan..get one. 2-10 is one of the best.

We've used Climatemakers, Ltd. (Home) for one of those seasonal checkups and they were wonderful. They didn't try to sell us anything or tell us we needed some upgrade.

Smile Thanks

Yes, Erma. Ours is a 3 ton. We don't have a warranty, so we need to pay. Was the cost you quoted the installed price or only the wholesale cost of the unit?

Thanks for the comment on Climatemakers.
