I would love to move to Newport News. I am orginally from there and have family there and in Hampton. The one thing that stops me though is that the rents seem to be quite steep compared to where I live now. I currently pay $450 a month for a studio with utlities in Erie, PA. My dad rents out rooms in his house which is in the Hidenwood/Deep Creek area and I think charges close to $600 a month. What would I expect to pay for a studio in a decent area of Newport News (I'm thinking either near Warwick or Jefferson Ave)?

Rents for studios in nicer developments in NN are not cheap. YOu are probably looking at least 600 to 700 dollars. You are also going to want to stay north of J Clyde on the Jefferson side and north of Main street on the Warwick side.
