Gas was syphened out of my car in Va Bch
Well folks I was pretty suprised when I went out to my SUV the other
morning to find that my gas door and cap were hanging off and my gas
was gone and what a mess they made. They (who ever did it) shoved
some wooden dowels down my tank which caused some minor problems.
I was shocked because it happened right in my driveway w/the garage light
on and light at my front door (which is really bright).
Have any of you had any problems like this? I live in a nice neighborhood but
guess it can happen anywhere.
I did go out and bought a locking gas cap.
Its a shame this is what it's coming to.!!

Sorry that this happened to you. It just goes to show that crime is everywhere.
Most likely, police won't find out who did it....

Kids....they want their own vehicle, but can't afford the gas at the prices it's at. Heck, look at the warnings on the gas pumps! You WILL lose your license if you pump and go without paying, but some stupid people don't realize they are being video taped! Syphening has been around since I started driving. It's happening in alot of areas too, not just VB! Many construction sites are hanging their gas generated equipment 5 stories up, so that the tank and the machinery are safe. Sorry you were a victim. Hopefully you didn't have a full tank syphened.

These high gas prices have raised this crime and have brought on a massive demand for locking gas caps. It is happening at an alarming rate in NoVA.

There's a link in the Charlotte forum and it's happening down there too. No area is free from this. We've been keeping our tanks half full. Figure they won't get much for their trouble.

When my mom got her latest vehicle, she was happy that it already had a locking gas cap. She's got a 35 gallon tank in her beast... but we still worry that somebody'll just poke a hole from underneath.

I'm a hillbilly so I got a simple fix for people stealing gas. Razerblades. Someone tries to open my tank and doesn't know where to put their fingers, they will be sliced off. I'm going to get ride of them though and get me a locking gas cap. This day and age, if someone breaks into your house and you beat them up, you're the one that goes to jail, not the robber.

You got that right...they'll sue you for medical bills, pain & suffering! The only way to solve any problem like that is to get a locking cap, or pull your vehicle up next to something on the side the gas tank is on, so they don't have enough room to get in there.

Still doesn't stop the idiots who'll just go under the vehicle and poke a hole in the tank and have it drip onto a pan or something.
It's pretty sad that we have to literally hide our vehicles just so criminals can't:
-Steal from the car itself
-Steal the catalytic converter
-Steal the gas
-Steal any part that they need for their own...
And it's worse when somebody witnesses this going on and doesn't do anything but watch.
Ugh, I hate criminals. None of them care just how much they hurt others.
