maybe that's a dumb question... i work in philly which is not exactly a haven of safety... but i don't live in philly bc of that reason... so anyone that knows the northeast can you give me a comparision... is it just like any other "city" and that i probably would want to live "outside" of it somewhere?
also still wondering about the beach thing.

Hey there,
I too am thinking of relocation to VaBeach from Pa with my hubby. We want to live in a beach town, but are tired of the Jersey Shore. And, don't want to go to Florida...Calif is to expensive. We have been taking vacations up and down the East Coast and seem to really like Virginia. We are going down next month and plan on driving around Chesapeake. I want to live in a more rural country setting so everyone suggested looking into the Hickory area or maybe even Suffolk. Pungo seems ok, but a little too rural or something. I'm looking for the "Waltons" house. Anyway all the research I have done seems like it is a great place to raise kids, has great school systems and of course lots of beach stuff to do. You have Bush Gardens, Williamsburg and all that stuff close by. And the peaceful tranquility of the Chesapeake Bay----look away from the big container ships! I like Pa, lots of trees, baby mountains and farm land. Change is always a little scary, especially since my family lives in Pa. But I am trying to way all the benefits of living close to the beach again.
We should keep each other posted!

Well I can tell ya, I wouldn't have stayed here 20 + years if this place stunk, that's for sure. Cuz I've worked in Philly, Baltimore, Florida (which I'm heading back to in Sept. for a few days), San Diego, Seattle, Bremerton, Chicago, Detroit, New Jersey, Texas, Maine, Conneticut and more to come, and I wouldn't even worry about HR or VBeach compaired to those I've been to.

yes defiantely! i'll let you know if i hear good stuff and let me know how your trip goes we were thinking florida bc i have family there and love the warmth, but it's a bit too humid for him so va seemed like a good compromise for us. a lot of the posts are worrying me when they talk about crime and traffic but i need to remind myself to consider what they're used to vs. what i'm used to. we definately want to live close to the beach... but of course not sign ourselves up for too long of a commute to work! good luck to you!

for the most part VB is very safe. like any city there are some areas less desirable but I really wouldn't consider any part of vb 'dangerous' to be in.
