Erma,

You are right. I live off of Indian River and Kempsville, and the Indian River on and off ramp set up heading east on 64 could quite possibly be the worst designed piece of highway I have ever seen. Second worst is the Bottleneck just past newport News heading west on 64 towards Richmond, that is unreal. They really need to add a lane there

OMG yes! I know exactly what you are talking about. I leave work at 3 and on Fridays, it can be a pain. Normally I get off at the VA BCH exit, but sometimes take the IR exit to stop at the grocery on the way home, cuz once I'm home, I don't need to go anywhere, especially after 5 pm.
I like the way the Princess Anne exit is onto Independence. They should set them up that way. The oncoming traffic south has a light before the overpass so the ramp traffic has a chance to get onto the main road.

I have been here about a month. If you stay away from the interstates and tunnels/bridges for a commute, you will be fine. Traffic otherwise seems to move and not come to a standstill like it did where I moved from.

yea i'm gathering that it's those bridges/tunnels that connect the newport news/hampton section to the vb/norfolk section that cause the biggest issue (correct me if i'm majorly wrong) and that if i stay in one section (the vb section) it won't be that bad... at least not as bad as some of the impressions i got...
