Default driving there

i've been living and driving over here in Kuwait for the past two yrs. Here in Kuwait you wouldnt make it. They drive like crazy people here. they dont use their turn signals, they run thru red lights, and they will drive u off the road if u r in their way. So i say u got it good there. I pray everyday over here before i get on the road.

1. Why in the HE!! do people slow down when they're about to go to the HRBT! C'mon it's only a tunnel it's not that serious.

2. If I see another driver in front of me turn without using their turn signal I think I will catch a serious case of road rage and have to take a charge for assault lol!

3. For the people that live in Newport News and Hampton. How in the He!! do you live in the area all your life but never go across the water. I mean there's more to this area beside the Peninsula.

4. Too much ghetto trash within the area. I came from pretty much a seedy area of Brooklyn but the people out here seem to be 25 years behind, Why would you not expose yourself to different things. You rather stay in your area and have 8-10 kids by time your 30 years old (damaged Goods)

5. Lack Of Cultural Diversity, Lack of Museums, Theatre, Not Pedestrian Friendly and It's just too slow for me. I'm tired of the fact everything shuts down at 2AM I'm used to staying out in NY until Daylight in the Summertime which is at least 6AM.

6. I can't get a Good Boar's Head Turkey and Cheese Hero.

In Conclusion the reason why I came to VA was basically for a change of pace. I have family out here so they helped me out. I received my Driver's license and once I finish college (August 09) I'm outta here I'm going to DC, Charlotte, NC or back to NY

3.) This mentality here AMAZES me! The people I work with think that since it takes me 20 minutes to drive home, I live far away! It is a very narrow minded "I'm gonna live in my little area" mentality.
One girl I work with actually has someone else drive her to her doctor in Norfolk! She says it's too far to go by herself. (she's in her early 30's!)

4.) See # 3

5.) This one doesn't bother me....I'm already like an old lady.
#2 Drive in California, Washington and especially MA!
#3 There are alot of people that will not drive on the interstates. Probably due to a bad experience they had before and some will not drive out of their comfort zone. Alot of it has to do with the new areas of developement and not knowing where they are going an either won't buy or can't afford a gps.
There are so many "little areas" that I know for a fact from living where I lived for 20 years, I had no need to go to other areas, everything I needed was right in my neighborhood and that was fine with me.
Alot of people live where they work or not far from it. The new apartment, condo complexes and such are getting closer to business districts.
Virginia Beach for one, is building in areas that were desolate. Once the developements are built, in come the shopping centers and restaurants. We were just talking about this the other day on another thread.

I totally agree with you. That gets me so vexed when I do not see people signaling. I moved here from NYC from the Bronx to be more precise, and they never signal for anything. Gosh... When I go through the chesapeake bay bridge tunnel people go so slow. It just a tunnel, get in and get out. What even gets me more vexed is that when they are about to exit the tunnel thats when they begin to speed up, unbelievable. I did not realize that you were from New York when I finished reading your whole post thats when I realized that you were from NY.. I always get excited when I see people from New York in Hampton Roads area.

The thing I hate most about Hampton Roads are the people who constantly complain about Hampton Roads. If you hate it so much get out.

What's the fastest you've gone through the tunnel? 100+? 120+?

A friend has a video from way back in the day from one of his friends doing 120+ through the (decomissioned) toll both on 264 (then it was 44) while talking on a cell phone.

AGREED! Nobody rides the HRT bus for that very reason, and they want a light rail system? It would maybe work if it had more than a whopping FOUR stops all in....where?

DOWNTOWN!

of course this is going to be a dwelling for the ghetto. That's all Norfolk is.

I would ride it if there were a stop convent to me in VA beach and it went to ODU, and if the stop times were convenient to my class times. I don't see that happening though. I can't believe VA Beach is going to buy the circuit city building for a stop. We have better things to spend our money on right now!!!

I love how people say things like, "Oh if you think drivers here are bad go to (insert random bad driving city/state)" Like a guy said in the other thread, how are we gona get any better if you compare a turd to a turd..thats pointless..
