Actually, saving money would be better. Too much debt is bad.
And I think the "if you don't like it, leave" argument is funny. As the smart people do so, the area will rapidly turn worse and worse.

Speaking of Debt - Credit Cards Doubling Interest Rates Regardless!

Be careful, today I got a letter from Discover Card claiming they are doubling my percentage rate to 12.9% though I have high credit that hasn't changed one bit. Then they sent me another letter stating they are expanding my credit available. Interesting strategy they use. Here' you can have all the money you want, but we're going to make a lot of money off of it!

I got one from Discover saying they were bumping me to an adjustable rate. I never carry a balance on any credit card. Banks don't need more money.

You slam the military, the government workers and now those who enjoy living here. You really should find a place where you will be happy.

Thats just how Tel is...he does the same thing on other review websites as well. Its funny, he slams HR for all this technical, IT jargon which I am sure most people do not understand, and assumes that is what is important to everyone else. He really needs to stop being so close-minded, and mature a bit

To Telemonsters credit, IT is where the US must go. The only thing we have over most of the world now is our constant creation of ideas. The fact that Hampton Roads is a black hole for things like this, is a real problem. You might not understand the things he says, but the things he is talking about, are the only things that are going to keep most of us in jobs when we no longer build anything.
It is very depressing to learn just how much Hampton Roads has been rejecting this sector as a whole. Telemonster, as a member of this field, gives us a hands on view of the difficulties hes had. If youve read some of his posts, he has very good ideas, and its people like that Hampton Roads needs to grab on to and not let go off to Silicon Valley, Northern VA, or any other area that has been embracing technology.
Some of the things he says, especially about tech, should be very important to every person who lives here, or plans on staying here and isnt retired or sucking off the government.

I frequent two local sites (this one and Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed). I own and run HRConnect, but oddly don't post on it much. It's mainly known for streaming audio of all 7 cities police/fire/rescue and things like the air traffic. Some of the feeds are down for the moment and I haven't heard back from my friend Jim who handles the radio side of things.
Outside of this and Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed, I post on PilotOnline. I check craigslist daily, and read (and sometimes post on) the housing bubble blog. That's it for me.
I don't recall dropping nerd talk in my posts?

I like reading Tele's posts, sure he slams this area, but his posts are backed up with facts and I have not read any that I disagree with. And sure not everyone is in IT and cares about that side of Hampton Roads, but one of his points is that this area doesn't support a corporate presence and that greatly hurts HR, so that does affect everyone.
Just cause someone doesn't like this area does not make them immature. It is very frustrating living here as a young person so I see where he is coming from. And perhaps someone thinking of moving here will read his posts and it will prevent them from making a big mistake. Everyone has a right to their opinion and if you disagree with him for bashing HR, provide reasons why he is wrong. Or you can ignore his posts too . But really the only good things that I have heard about HR are that:
- It is near the ocean.
- It is somewhat close to mountains.
- It is somewhat close to other cities like DC and NYC.
- The winters are mild.

Just a couple observations; we've been here for a couple years now. I don't *hate* these things about HR, but they can be annoying.
1. 'Towing' signs in virtually every parking lot. We see these signs everywhere. Just curious. Has there been a problem in the past with people leaving their car in parking lots all the time?
2. When police administer tickets, drivers have to park their car right there in the lane. In other places people can drive their car into a parking lot, thus not block traffic. Sure the pretty flashing police lights warn you; this is obvious. But it doesn't improve traffic flow does it?
3. We see a Lot of police patrolling the streets. While this is a good thing, since we see their presence, I have to ask, why are there so many? Is it due to a higher crime rate here? Or is it simply due to a higher concentration of military installations here (there's a lot more to protect than just civilians)? Or is it something else?
BTW I know the nickname is misspelled; it was too late by the time I noticed. DOH!
