Pembroke Towers, Norfolk opinions
I'm planning on moving out for the first time ever in January. I will be working in Chesapeake and attending school at ODU. I've been looking for apartments from Greenbrier/Military Highway to Ghent. I found Pembroke Towers in the Apartment Guide, but can't find much about it online. Does anyone know if this is a reputable apartment complex? Any info you may have will be greatly appreciated!

Looks like a nice place and I'm sure there are medical students staying there as well, since Norfolk General has many medical programs. I'm sure Bikesarebetter will tell you that you are close to alot of things, including Ghent, Waterside and other places, like McCarther Center, the Scope and Chrysler Center.

Save yourself travel time and gas money and live in Ghent..Since you are going to ODU. You can skate or bike there. Pretty much the same goes for everthing around here. I am talking Ghent that is.
Got your Grocery Stores (Sorta Fresh, Harris Teeter), some bars, variety of restaurants, a wig store etc..

Pembroke Towers is in Ghent, between the Hague and EVMS/Norfolk General. The location is very convenient and safe. You can walk to shops/cafes/theater on Coley Ave, to Harris Teeter, to Chrysler Museum, even to downtown if you like walking.
It seems that most tenants are either retirees or doctors/residents, so it's a quiet place. The tower (there's only one actually) was built in 1960's so the apartments are rather outdated inside and would benefit from interior renovation. But it's very clean and the views from top floors are superb. One side of the building gets fair amount of car noise from the street - and better views to downtown and harbor. I understand that the apartments are not very expensive and most utilities are included in rent.
Hague Towers is under same management. I like its locations less, but it's got an indoor pool on the top floor.
Commuting from Ghent to Chesapeake should be doable because you'll be going against traffic most of the time.
I do not like the Military Highway area at all.

My job is on Indian River Rd in Chesapeake. You think I'll be going against traffic, though? I just hate driving in Norfolk. It's so erratic to me.
Thanks

Naw..not really. Take the interstate to South Military. It's only 2 stop lights down from where you get on after you get off the interstate. I take military all the time when I drive from the base to my office on battlefield in chesapeake. You won't have to deal with the commercial traffic near the mall.

I've known several people that lived there. It's worth noting that they charge more for rent if you live higher up. Same thing at Hague Towers. Overall, it's not a bad place to live if you're looking for apartment living. It is a reputable place in one of the nicer areas of Norfolk and quite fair and reasonable from what I hear. After your first year is up, you should then know a lot more about the area and other reputable places to live that may be less expensive, less crowded, or closer to your workplace depending on if you want to stay there or not.

This is an excellent place. I was at pembroke towers for almost 2years and felt like home. When my parents visited me, they were so confident and happy by seeing this aparments. You have a very nice water view, downtown view and also you can see the ships over the weekends. Its walkable distance to downtown, hospital . this is locate in a historic place called Ghent , and the people are very friendly here.
